The Paper & Glam Book Club 2016
Sunday, November 08, 2015
Paper & Glam Readers,
It's time to talk Book Club 2016!
The framework for the reading list is a three-way split between classics, fiction, and non-fiction. Whether you're a devoted fan of pop-culture phonemes, literary greats, or a student of the human experience, there's a book on the list you'll love!
Each book on the 2016 list received many votes and at least one glowing endorsement from a monthly book chatter who read it and savored every page.
Without further ado, I'm pleased to introduce the 2016 Paper & Glam Book Club Reading List with a brief description of how each title fits in.
JANUARY
January's book club read will have us living more with less by Organized Home Day on January 14th! Who's ready to de-clutter based on which items spark joy? It's all about finding the wonder and joy in the everyday and in between so let's start out the year by de-cluttering together!
FEBRUARY
When I released the 2015 Paper & Glam Reading List a member of our reading community noted there wasn't much cultural diversity within the authors selected. Admittedly, cultural diversity isn't something I think of when selecting my next read so I invited the reader to send over a few culturally diverse selections and I'd make sure one of her picks was on this year's list.
MARCH
Girl On The Train was the Gone Girl of 2015! It will be filling the can't-put-it-down thriller slot on the 2016 Paper & Glam Reading List. The excerpt advertises a "compulsively readable and emotionally immersive Hitchcockian thriller" and I can't wait!
APRIL
With the dawn of spring I'm ready for bright, breezy chic lit and when this book popped up on multiple book chatter's "2016 Reading Wishlists," I knew it was meant to fill out chic-lit quota! As luck would have it, I'd just snagged the it at random during a routine Costco run when I noticed my duvet graced it's the cover!
MAY
Breakfast at Tiffany's will be our first quarterly classic for 2016! In 2015 we focused on Brit Lit, so this year we're taking on American Lit starting with the iconic and glammest of them all!
JUNE
June's Paper & Glam Book Club selection is a book I couldn't go another year without reading! In Blonde, "the legend of Marilyn Monroe comes provocatively alive in this powerful tale of Hollywood myth and heartbreaking reality. A star created to shine brightest in the Hollywood firmament before her fall to earth. Blonde is a dazzling fictional portrait of the intricate inner life of the idolized and desired movie star as only the inimitable Joyce Carol Oates could paint it."
JULY
Our second classic of the year is the epic, all-time bestseller and the benchmark for The Great American Novel...none other than Gone With The Wind.
AUGUST
A pair of circus-performing dueling magicians who fall dangerously in love?! Oh I'd say this book is the perfect fit for our 2016 end-of-summer beach read, wouldn't you?!
SEPTEMBER
"Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall" with my all-time favorite book and our third quarterly classic of 2016, The Great Gatsby.
OCTOBER
This year's Halloween read staring "a centuries-old vampire, a spellbound witch, and a mysterious manuscript" promises to get us in a the spirit of "Glamoween" with "equal parts history and magic, romance and suspense."
NOVEMBER
In November our book club will read the highly anticipated (Amazon's most pre-ordered since the final installment of the Harry Potter series) and polarizing release to Harper Lee's American classic To Kill A Mockingbird! Some critics loved it, some thought it an unconscionable defilement of an American classic, we'll decide for ourselves next year! Interesting fact, the title comes from Isaiah 21:6 "For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth."
DECEMBER
December's Paper & Glam Book Club read is a festive, seasonal selection from the master of fantasy J.R.R. Tolkien. If you were left mesmerized by the world of the friar in the now classic The Hobbit and Lord of The Rings trilogy, can you imagine how he'll bring the North Pole to life?!
There is a free printable reading schedule and planner stickers in the shop to keep us organized and accountable to turning pages together in 2016!
Were any of these titles already on your to-read list? Is there one or two you're particularly excited to read? It's going to be tough not crack these titles early!
As with last year, book club will be live the last Thursday of the month on P&G TV at 6 PM PST/9 PM EST!
To discuss other reads and join the Book Club community, we're on Facebook here! To discuss the monthly read (spoilers allowed), we're on GoodReads here!
Can't wait to read through 2016 with you,
Lisamarie

I have decided to have a go at joining your book club and I am really excited about being involved in one (having never done it before). I am really looking forward to January's book - I am sure it will help me with future new year resolutions.
Can I ask are there any other UK paper and glam book club people - where are you going to buy your books from?
Thank you - and I look forward to reading with you Lisamarie.

Yay! Several books were on my reading list already. Thank you again for organizing this for us! And thank you for the December Life List. Just a note: Ugly Sweater Day is the 18th, not the 11th. And it's such a BIG holiday (LOL) that I thought you'd want to know. Apparently it's the 3rd Friday of December.

I just finished reading Girl on the Train and it was AMAZING. Better than Big Little Lies, if you can even believe that. Excited about the list!

I'm so ready for the 2016 Book Club. I wasn't able to participate this year but it's a part of my resolution for next year. I've read a couple of these books already but I'd love to read them again. Really like the choices for next year. Great list.

I read The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up earlier this year-- it has some great ideas! Very thoughtful and responsible way of thinking about your possessions. I bet you'll all enjoy it! The Great Gatsby is a classic-- perfect to read in the fall too! I read it every year.
