Do you ever feel like you're the last person on earth to read that book everyone is talking about?
This is my relationship with Mindy Kaling's Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns). The book came out in 2011 - an instant smash hit - and it's been sitting on my bookshelf haunting me ever since. I need to read this book!
I love to read and I prioritize reading in my weekly schedule, but despite my best efforts, I feel behind on the books everyone is loving. Maybe it's because everyone is hanging out without me reading them. ;)
So here's an idea, how about we read a book together each month? Let's form our own band of aspiring literati.
How is this going to work?
My vision for our book club is simple. We read a book together each month. On or around the 15th of the month, I'll post next month's read here so there's enough time to snag the book. On or around the last day of the month, we'll discuss the book here and on YouTube.
Want to know more? The video goes into more detail:
September's read is If I Stay by Gayle Forman.
Here's the discription from Amazon:
In a single moment, everything changes. Seventeen year-old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall riding along the snow-wet Oregon road with her family. Then, in a blink, she finds herself watching as her own damaged body is taken from the wreck...
A sophisticated, layered, and heartachingly beautiful story about the power of family and friends, the choices we all make.
I love that last line!
We'll read If I Stay together through the month of September, and at the end of the month, we'll discuss it here and on YouTube.
Make sense? Any ideas for a better book club?
My hope is that our book club becomes a collaborative affair. I'd love to hear what you've read and loved, what we should read next, and what book everyone is talking about in your circles.
Are you in? Let's raise our coffee mugs and turn some pages together.
